Mrs. Geeta Shroff is a well-known name that is synonym of ‘Social Work’ in the Southern part of Gujarat, India. She leads mainly by example, always doing her best and encouraging others too to do the same. Easygoing by nature, yet direct and decisive when she needs to be defines her best. She is respected not only in the social domain of Surat, but by her peers and also the top leaders of the nation. She is a woman of integrity and able to make tough calls when required.
Mrs. Shroff completed first year of her LL.B from Veer Narmad South Gujarat University and holds a blue print for Success from Qualified Learning System (India). She has special interest in the field of motivational and inspirational programs, organizing events and social work for reforms in society.
Mrs. Shroff adheres to the following work norms as stipulated by her –
MISSION:
To provide assistance, build capacity, and coalesce individuals and women into mainstream society who have conservatively been suppressed in personal, social, economic and political spheres.
OBJECTIVE:
To organize women into self help groups and develop their leadership qualities to facilitate making decisions at personal and social levels.
To improve health status of communities through health education, environmental cleanliness, and increasing access to primary health and child care centers in remote areas.
To provide voluntary and essentially confidential care and support to the depressed & one with suicidal tendency.
 To promote gender equality.
MAJOR ACTIVITIES:
From 1989 to 2000, she tirelessly put efforts to inspire females by imparting them training on cooking and other household chores so that they could make their earning and become self-sustained.
In 1989, she conducted the first ‘Vacation Camp for Children’ in Surat under the banner of ‘Bhaudik Vikas Sankul’.
In 1994, she established a new concept in Surat by starting Kaamdhenu Services which provided various services like grocery items, household maids, carpenter, plumbing as well as electricians for door to door services. She also introduced more than 30 varieties of Khakharas which provided employment to 40 needy females of Surat.
In 1996, she created and hosted first ever television show on women empowerment and completed 100 episodes of the same with ‘Channel Surat’ which was much appreciated by all the citizens.
She is a pioneer in organizing a grand ‘Wedding Exhibition’ in Surat which covered all the aspects of wedding right from Astrology to Prenatal Cultural Training (known as ‘GarbhSanskar) which got recognized at international level.
In 1998, she organized elocution and discussions in various schools on topic ‘Samjho Samasya Balko Ni’ and organized various programs on students through various local electronic media.
She is an Advisory Committee Member of India’s first Children University in Gujarat.
She is the President of NGO A.Ni.S (Apmrutyu Nivaran Sahay) which primarily works for the cause of suicide prevention. A.Ni.S initiated a special movement in support to the women who committed suicide within 10 years of their marriage and demanded a video shooting of the suicide point to be done. They intimated the same to the Government of Gujarat and the government authorities directed all the state police headquarters to follow this pattern.
NGO A.Ni.S has also relentlessly worked in many cases pertaining to female harassment and domestic violence.
She takes interest in educating over 11,000 female students of ‘Vanita Vishram School & College’ on the topic of self-empowerment.
She is the ‘Chief Mentor’ of counseling team for local Police Stations, Family Court and District Court for preventing the couple separations.
In 2005, she initiated the request to bring Family Court in Surat which helped in establishing Family Court in the city in 2007. This helped in giving a separate attention to matrimonial cases. She initiated various offbeat practices to help the couples settle their disputes by the method of healing music, library, yoga and motivational programs there. Mrs Shroff and her team are selflessly serving for this cause since last 11 years now.
From 2005, she serves as trustee in Traffic Education Trust along with Surat City Police. Under the guidance from the then Chief Minister of Gujarat Shri Narendra Modi, she initiated traffic awareness programs in different in cities like Rajkot, Valsad, Vadodara, Ahmedabad and Navsari as a result of which thousands of youngsters got employment and traffic awareness significantly increased.
In 2006, she organized discussion forums on documentary ‘Behind the Closed Door’ in Surat city with noted Mumbai based Women Activist Rinky Bhatacharya and Prem Sharda, Ex-Vice Chancellor of South Gujarat University, which helped in creating awareness in the society against domestic violence.
In 2009, she initiated a program on self-defense of women after the Gang-rape case in New Delhi. The program was called ‘Josh bhi hai, Hosh bhi hai” which trained 10000 girls. This helped in motivating and inspiring the girls of town to stand up against the harassment and violence.
She has been a part of the ‘Path-darshak Pratibha Granth’ bio-data’s of leading people of the city in different sectors under the guidance of Ex-Chief Minister of Gujarat Shri Narendra Modi. In 2010, she played a significant role in Surat’s ‘Swarnim Gujarat, Vaanche Gujarat’ which was a Government of Gujarat initiative.
In 2012-13, she initiated a movement called ‘Surat Acts Against Rape (SAAR)’ movement and ‘Beti Swah-Shaktikaran’ (Self-empowerment).
She produced a documentary film on the city called ‘Hun Surat’ which was directed by Ketan Mehta to put the achievements of Surat city on the global map.
She led the translation of book called ‘Nar-Kesari Narendra Modi’ (Ex-Chief Minister of Gujarat Shri Narendra Modi) from Kannad to Gujarati language.
She is involved in various social activities like Blood Donation Camp, Eye and Dental Check-up Camps, Cancer Awareness Program and Education Awareness Programs since 1999.
